Bariatric Surgery

Dr. Mike Wolpert was the first physician in Siouxland and the Tri-state area to be trained to do surgery with the new LAP-BAND System.  He did the first procedure in January, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, and has performed well over 100 LAP-BAND procedures.  The LAP-BAND procedure is the most minimally invasive approach for your desired weight loss.  This system is the safest and least traumatic and it is the only surgery that offers an adjustable band, for a customized weight loss rate!

Dr. Wolpert and his partner, Dr. Keith Vollstedt, and their highly trained team of nurses and support staff, are available to assist you in making your decision to have obesity surgery.

If you or someone you know is struggling with severe obesity and other related health conditions, Dr. Wolpert and Dr. Vollstedt can help.  Dr. Wolpert specializes in the LAP-BAND surgery and patient management to help patients take control of their obesity and regain their health.  Dr. Vollstedt performs open and laparoscopic gastric bypasses, as well as the LAP-BAND procedure.

Our physicians have teamed up with Mercy Medical Center to provide you with a highly trained staff of professionals to assist you through the entire process.  This team consists of surgeons, nurses, nutritionists, exercise therapists, psychologists and insurance coordinators.  With the Bariatric Team at Mercy Medical Center, we can offer you a safe and effective weight-loss surgery, comprehensive education before and after surgery, as well as ongoing aftercare.

Dr. Wolpert and Dr. Vollstedt are both Diplomats of the American Board of Surgery and Fellows of the American College of Surgeons.  They are members of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (ASBS) and were trained by Inamed/Allergon, who specializes in the obesity epidemic and provides the highest quality of training and education.
